Jaak Siim, a partner of Cuesta Law Office contributed to the organization World Justice Project (WJP), participating as one of the Estonian experts in the preparation of the publication Rule of Law Index 2024. Jaak Siim participated in a study for the publication in the field of constitutional law, civil liberties, and criminal law.
In the WJP publication Rule of Law Index, among other things, based on information provided by legal experts of various countries, more than 140 countries have been ranked according to the following principles of the rule of law. In the ranking included in the publication for 2023, Estonia was in 9th place among 142 countries.
The WJP is an international civil society organization with the stated mission of working to advance the rule of law around the world. It compiles the World Justice Project’s Rule of Law Index, a quantitative assessment tool that shows the extent to which countries adhere to the rule of law in practice. Data from the WJP Rule of Law Index is used as an indicator of political and legal freedom in the Basel AML Index, a money laundering risk assessment tool developed by the Basel Institute on Governance, as well as Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, the World Bank’s Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI), etc. Jaak Siim has contributed to the organization since 2020.
